President Obama, you harshly criticized President Bush for failing to stand up to Sudan’s slaughter in Darfur. So now what are you going to do as Sudan kills again — on your watch?
op-ed by NYT columnist Nick Kristof about Kony 2012.
brilliant piece. exactly how i feel. stop vilifying the makers for simplifying the issue or accusing them of being neocolonialist.
at the most basic level: it’s generating a wide base of awareness, which is key in stopping any injustice and bringing anyone to justice.
read this.
Awareness and education are key to action. If no one raises awareness no one will know about the situation. Yes, the video simplified the situation but it had to be simplified to be understood.

Reading via lamp-light since the power is out. Finished Half the Sky by Nicholas Kristof and now it’s on to The Hunger Games.
Ryan, a 30-year-old from Florida, has made the perilous decision to bear witness to atrocities in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan, secretly staying behind when other foreigners were evacuated.
“He’s irreplaceable,” said Jonathan Hutson of the Enough Project. “There’s no substitute for someone on the ground.”
“It’s terrifying when they bomb,” Ryan told me. “You don’t feel safe at any time of day or night.”
“Twitter?” he asked. “I’ve been in the bush for nine years, so I don’t know how to use it.” But he’s planning to learn.
Nick Kristof’s Saturday column (6/11)
This is the reason why my family doesn’t/tries not to eat store bought meat. We do not know where it comes from or what nasty things are injected into the animals and/or meat.
I come from a family of hunters and I am proud to say that. We are NOT trophy hunters, yeah we have deer mounted on the wall but those were the lucky shots and they just happened to be “trophy” bucks. We hunt to put food on the table and that’s it. That is how it always has been for my family. We survive the whole year on venison, elk, and chicken (venison is so much more healthier then beef anyways). We try to get as much “home-grown” meat/fruit/vegetables as possible (have to support our local farmers!) at least we know where our food is coming from and it’s not injected with growth hormones and antibiotics.
Why is the FDA not doing anything about this? Food kills one person every two hours.
People always seem surprised when food is contaminated but it shouldn’t be a surprise. Just look at the conditions these animals live in. Of course our food is going to be contaminated!
/My unorganized rant for the day.
